Presidential hopeful Jeb Bush mingles with crowd at Bulldogs game

ATHENS, Ga. -- Presidential hopeful Jeb Bush took to the campaign trail on Saturday and found himself behind an age-old football rival's enemy lines - in Athens, Ga.

It didn't seem to cause too much trouble for the former Florida governor, however. He mingled with a crowd of college Republicans before the match-up between the University of Georgia and South Carolina.

This won't be the only time Bush will mix politics and SEC football, however.

He's set to attend the Georgia-Tennessee game in October and a game between Louisiana State University and Alabama in November.

Famed Bulldog Herschel Walker: Donald Trump is 'my frontrunner' for president

Donald Trump is in position to win the endorsement of a former Heisman Trophy winner who said he knows it could be an unpopular move.

Herschel Walker, the former running back who played for the New Jersey Generals of the now-defunct USFL when Trump owned the team, said he likes what he has seen from Trump during the billionaire's polarizing presidential campaign.

"There's not a doubt in my mind right now he is my frontrunner," Walker told USA TODAY Sports. "I'm not going to say anything negative about him because it's not true."

Walker said he supports Trump's idea of building a wall between the U.S.-Mexico border, but does not agree with Trump's most controversial position: deporting the 11 million undocumented immigrants living in the U.S.

Eateries earn north Ga. city 'Best Places to Live' spot

SANTA FE -- A major magazine has named a north Georgia city among the best places to live in the U.S.

Outside Magazine released its “2015 Best Towns” competition which whittled 64 towns down to 16.

Among them is Athens, Ga. which the magazine touts as an “outpost of world-class eateries that combine the best of the South with adventurous, farm fresh, ethos.”

Specifically, the magazine highlights White Tiger Gourmet, Bread Basket, Cali-N-Tito’s, Creature Comforts, the National, The Old Pal and Hi-Lo Lounge.

Athens ranked sixth in the nation.

It was the only city in Georgia to make the final list – but not the only southern town.

Storms caused power outages and delayed traffic across metro Atlanta

ATHENS, GA (WXIA) – Strong winds and driving rain caused power outages and traffic delays across metro Atlanta while crews worked to clear massive trees that toppled onto roadways Monday evening.

One of the hardest hit areas was in Athens, where across the city trees took down power lines.

Storms hit Athens twice Monday – the first was the worst.

At West Broad and West Hancock, the winds pushed over at least five trees at the Broad Acres Apartments, including two giant oak trees. One of them smashed into a daycare center. No one was hurt.

Richard Riden says the storm was like a blizzard.

“And it got so white – just white as snow,” he said. “And the trees started falling, and popping, and [there was lots of] lightning.”
