Georgia's Oldest Woman Turns 114 | News
MONROE, GA -- The world's third oldest person and Georgia's oldest has celebrated her 114th birthday.
Besse Cooper had a birthday party Thursday at Walton Regional Medical Center's facility in Monroe.
The Gerontology Research Group, which certifies supercentenarians, lists her as the third oldest person, having been born on Aug. 26, 1896 in Tennessee.
The Athens Banner-Herald reports that family and friends gathered with Cooper at her party to sing songs, release 114 balloons, blow out 114 candles and watch an Elvis impersonator.
Cooper's family says her lifestyle, which included adventure and lots of time outside, may have helped her live so long.
