UGA HEROs Host Two Thanksgiving Weekend Events | Community Spirit

While many college students will be in a turkey induced coma, this weekend, the UGA HEROs will be hosting two events -- one at Tate Center Plaza and the other on North Campus before Saturday, November 27th, Bulldogs-Yellow Jackets 7:45 p.m. game at Sanford Stadium.  These game-day festivities are two of the student-run organization’s largest fundraising opportunities of the year to benefit the more than 12,000 children in the State of Georgia who are infected and affected by HIV/AIDS.

The UGA HEROs program is dedicated to improving the quality of life for children in Georgia who are infected and affected by HIV/AIDS. Ninety percent of HERO families make under $10,000 a year and 50 percent have lost one or more parents to the disease.

HEROs have a “super hero" in University of Georgia head football coach, Mark Richt, who is a member of UGA HEROs Board of Directors. 

Before the game, members of HEROs Board of Directors will be recognized on the field for their hard work and dedication to the HEROs organization.

Off the field on Saturday, UGA HEROs will host a HERO-sized tailgate at the Tate Center Plaza from noon to 7 p.m. with food, games, a photo op with a UGA Santa and much, much more.  Gameday guests can also enjoy Classic City Cravings, a mini taste of Athens happening on North Campus from 4-7 p.m.  This delectable $6 tailgate features Mama’s Boy, Allen’s, and Last Resort's interpretations of Thanksgiving leftovers.

Funds raised by UGA HEROs are overseen by their parent organization, H.E.R.O. for Children, Inc., who is dedicated to improving the quality of life for children in Georgia infected or affected by HIV/AIDS.
