The Athens-Clarke County Police Department are requesting public’s assistance in apprehending the man who perpetrated the armed robbery at the Golden Pantry Convenience Store at 1880 West Broad Street in Athens.

The robbery happened around 11:55 p.m. on Tuesday, December 21st.  The clerk advised a black male entered the store with his head down.  He approached her and instructed her to get behind the counter.  She said he had his hand in his jacket pocket as if he had a weapon; however, no weapon was ever displayed.  Once behind the counter he instructed her to open the register.  She complied and he reached over and removed the cash which she described as a small amount.  He then walked out of the store.  It is believed he left on foot.

The suspect is described as 5’8” to 5’9” mid 20s to late 30s, with short cropped hair.  He wore a dark baseball cap, dark jacket, blue jeans, and white shoes.

Give Big Zach Back!

Athens, GA -- Zaxby's is offering free food for one year, in the form of $500 cards, for the safe return of "Big Zach", the restaurant chain's 15-foot tall inflatable mascot.

Sometime between 11:30 Monday night and 4:30 Tuesday morning, Big Zach was displaced from his front lawn residence at the restaurant located at 1040 Founders Boulevard. The chicken disappeared during Zaxby’s annual fall conference.

The chicken, which rested on the front lawn of the Center for Continuing Education seems to have mysteriously crossed the road or moved to the other side of the city. However, employees at the Athens-based restaurant chain miss “Big Zach” and they want him back.

The inflatable must be returned in good condition and able to inflate to receive the reward.  Zaxby’s will accept the missing chicken at its corporate headquarters, with no questions asked, between 9a.m.-4p.m. Monday through Friday at 1040 Founder’s Blvd in Athens.
