Parents upset with school response to alleged rape plan to voice concerns | News
ATHENS, GA (WXIA) -- Upset parents said they plan to voice concerns at a school board meeting Thursday evening after an alleged rape on campus at Cedar Shoals High School.
Last month, a 15-year-old girl told Athens-Clarke County Police she went into a secluded stairwell with three male classmates. She says they sexually assaulted her.
All three of the suspects -- Jaivous Collins, Markel Brannon and Xavier Clarke -- were arrested and charged in connection with the incident.
Some parents and staffers said they only learned of the alleged attack from the media, not school leaders.
While the school district spokesperson says in an 11Alive News interview that mistakes were made, some parents say that is not good enough. Other parents said they wonder if the suspects were allowed to attend school after the attack, potentially placing other students in harm's way.
A statement will be made, addressing the issue at Thursday night's meeting.
