Powerball tickets worth $1M claimed

ATLANTA – Two winning Powerball tickets worth $1 million were claimed Friday. Both winning tickets matched the first five winning numbers from the Sept. 18 Powerball drawing.

Chris Papadimitriou of Atlanta purchased her winning Quik Pik ticket at the Georgia Lottery’s Airport North kiosk, located at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport. Papadimitriou claimed her prize at Georgia Lottery headquarters in Atlanta.

Robert Channell III of Athens purchased his winning ticket at Golden Pantry at 31 Greensboro Highway in Watkinsville. Channell claimed his prize at the Georgia Lottery District Office in Duluth.

Winning numbers from the Sept. 18 Powerball drawing were: 7-10-22-32-35 and the Powerball was 19.

Kohl's hiring 50,000 for holidays

(WXIA) -- Kohl's plans to hire about 50,000 seasonal associates nationwide this year.

The department store chain announced Thursday that it hopes to find about 40 employees for each of its 1,158 stores, plus 6,400 people to work in distribution centers and 350 workers in credit operations.

Seasonal Kohl's employees can work up to 20 hours per week. Typical duties include unloading trucks, processing freight, stocking the store and running a cash register.

Kohl's said it will begin hiring for the holidays this month and hopes to fill all its seasonal positions by mid-November.

Sad day for Atlanta couponers: The end of Kroger double coupons

ATLANTA -- The wave of couponers' cries heard in the Midwest and Texas has finally hit the Southeast!

For years, we have enjoyed the everyday doubling of coupons $0.50 and less. We got FREE items because of this great policy and it made handling an almost impossible budget easier for us couponers and savvy shoppers.

While I am not saying that this will hurt us (I will be posting some other things Kroger is doing), it does have me wondering -- in this competitive Atlanta market, where we use more coupons per capita then ANYWHERE in the US -- how will this fare? Will Publix jump on the bandwagon?

The end of double coupons becomes effective September 21, 2013. For this couponer, I will be having to double check my shopping list with this new rule. It's not fun, but a lot of new things are coming from Kroger, and I think this is why the program of double couponing is ending.

The offer is good on Saturday, July 13 at all Krispy Kreme locations in Georgia. No coupon is required.

9 Kroger employees to compete in 'Bag-Off'

SUGAR HILL, Ga. -- Nine Kroger employees from across Georgia are gearing up to participate in this year's division Bag-Off.

The annual event pits young grocery baggers against each other as they compete for scholarships and the chance to represent Kroger at the statewide Georgia Food Industry Association Bag-Off.

"Baggers from all over the state work hard to prepare for this unique action-packed competition," Glynn Jenkins, director of communications and public relations for Kroger's Atlanta division, said in a statement. "The spirit and enthusiasm displayed by our contestants is what makes this a must-see event year after year."

The Kroger Bag-Off will be held Thursday, June 27 at the store on Cumming Highway in Sugar Hill. Contestants will be judged on their bagging speed, technique, weight distribution, appearance and overall style.

(WXIA) -- June 7 is National Doughnut Day, and Krispy Kreme is celebrating by offering one free doughnut to every customer.

Krispy Kreme customers can choose a free doughnut of any variety.
