Four draft picks opt to attend Georgia

ATHENS, Ga. -- Three members of Georgia's latest baseball recruiting class along with rising senior pitcher Patrick Boling will be wearing Bulldog red and black in 2014 after passing on a chance to sign a professional contract.

Seven Bulldog signees plus three student-athletes from the 2013 club were selected in Major League Baseball's First-Year Player Draft this past June, and teams had until Friday to sign their draft picks.

Pitcher Robert Tyler (Baltimore, 28th round), outfielder Stephen Wrenn (Atlanta, 28th round) and shortstop Michael Bell (Miami, 37th round) look to be key contributors for the Bulldogs over the next few years after choosing to honor their commitment to the University of Georgia. Also, the return of the versatile Boling (Washington, 32nd round) bolsters the pitching staff.

Georgia takes on Nebraska in Capital One Bowl

Georgia takes on Nebraska in Capital One Bowl

ORLANDO, Fla. -- No. 6 Georgia and No. 23 Nebraska will both be trying to outrun their recent past during their matchup in the New Year's Day Capital One Bowl.

The Bulldogs know they can't erase the sting of their disappointing SEC championship game loss to Alabama with a victory over the Cornhuskers Tuesday.

Likewise, the Cornhuskers know they won't be able to get over their lopsided 70-31 loss to Wisconsin in the Big Ten title game with just a single postseason victory.

Georgia coach Mark Richt says he wants the game to be a celebration for a senior class that has a chance to become only the third team in program history to record 12 victories.

Nebraska is trying for its first 11-win season since 2001, as both teams try to snap two-game bowl losing streaks.

Improbably, Georgia in mix for national title

Improbably, Georgia in mix for national title

ATHENS, Ga. -- Alabama was supposed to be the best team in the country. Then Oregon and Kansas State got all the hype. Now it's Notre Dame looking down at everyone else.

Plodding along quietly, barely noticed, is one other team that has a prime spot in the national championship race.

The Georgia Bulldogs.

Coach Mark Richt's squad moved up to No. 3 in The Associated Press poll Sunday and is expected to hold the same spot when the BCS standings are released. That means there are only three teams that control their own destiny: top-ranked Notre Dame, second-ranked Alabama - and Georgia.

The Bulldogs need to beat Georgia Tech in the regular-season finale, then Alabama in the Southeastern Conference championship game to earn a shot at the big prize in Miami.
