Photo Gallery | Many UGA fans don't like 'secret' Nike Pro Combat uniforms
Fan response to the “secret” Nike-supplied University of Georgia football uniform was swift and negative, reports the Macon Telegraph. UGA had planned to roll out the uniform at photo day Saturday, but Nike leaked the design on its website earlier in the morning. The comments, which included “Holy Awful” and “Is that uniform some kind of sick joke?”, didn’t bother Coach Mark Richt or players, the paper reported.
Richt defended the uniform choice, saying the players like the uniform. The ensemble includes a red jersey, red pants, and a red and silver helmet. And, besides, Richt said, the uniform fits the game during which it will be worn – the Sept. 3 season opener with Boise State.
“It’s a special game; you know it’s not what we would call a traditional uniform,” Richt said, the Macon paper reported. “But it’s not what we would call a traditional game. So that’s why we did it.”
