Look out for runners on Ga. 400

ATLANTA -- Don't be alarmed if you see a whole bunch of people running down Georgia 400 this weekend.

The Pay the Last Toll road race will be held Sunday, Nov. 17 at 8:30 a.m., and gives athletes one last opportunity to see the infamous toll booths before they are demolished.

Runners will begin at the Glenridge Connector in Sandy Springs and run south to Phipps Plaza. When they reach the toll booths, they will throw in their final 50 cents. All proceeds will go to charity.

Northbound lanes of Ga. 400 will be closed for the race from 5 a.m. to 11 a.m. Sunday.

Georgia Department of Transportation crews will also spend part of the weekend tearing down a MARTA pedestrian bridge on southbound Ga. 400.

Sally Struthers in 'Hello, Dolly!' coming to Classic Center

ATHENS, Ga. -- A Broadway production of Hello, Dolly! starring Sally Struthers will grace the Classic Center stage next month.

The musical will perform on Thursday, Nov. 21 at 7:30 p.m.

Hello, Dolly! tells the story of Dolly, a matchmaker who travels to Yonkers, N.Y., to find a match for a wealthy yet ornery client. It includes such popular songs as "Put on Your Sunday Clothes," "Before the Parade Passes By" and, of course, "Hello, Dolly!"

PROBE College Fair coming to Clarke County

ATHENS, Ga. -- The PROBE College Fair will stop in Clarke County next week.

The fair, which features representatives from nearly 200 colleges and universities across the country, will be at the Classic Center on Monday, Sept. 16 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.

PetSmart to host National Adoption Weekend

PetSmart to host National Adoption Weekend

(WXIA) -- PetSmart Charities is planning a major adoption event at stores nationwide.

National Adoption Weekend will be Sept. 13-15. Thousands of dogs and cats will be available for PetSmart customers to take home.

Adoption representatives will also be on hand to answer questions about caring for a new pet.

PetSmart Charities will give $35 to grants to participating local adoption partners for every pet that finds a new home during National Adoption Weekend.

"We are proud to partner with PetSmart Charities to find lifelong loving homes for thousands of pets this National Adoption Weekend," PetSmart CEO David Lenhardt said.

Action Dash brings superheroes to metro Atlanta

ATLANTA -- Action Ministries' annual 5K run/walk, the Action Dash, will be off and running again this Labor Day.

The event raises money to feed, house and educate Georgians in need.

RELATED | 11Alive helps Action Ministries' Smart Lunch, Smart Kid

Five different cities will host the Action Dash: Athens, Atlanta (Midtown), Augusta, Gainesville and Rome. Runners are encouraged to dress in their favorite superhero costumes. Children and pets are also invited to participate. (Pets are not allowed at the Gainesville race.)

Action Ministries hopes to raise $200,000 through the Action Dash.

Classic City BBQ Festival registration open

Classic City BBQ Festival registration open

ATHENS, Ga. -- The Classic City BBQ Festival will bring its mouthwatering fare to Athens next month.

The event, which is sanctioned by the Kansas City Barbeque Society, pits professional and backyard barbequers against each other to see who makes the best 'que in Clarke County.

The festival will be held Aug. 16-17 at the Classic Center. It costs $150 to enter the competition; participants must prepare both pork ribs and chicken. Backyard teams will vie for a $1,000 grand prize.

There will also be a classic car show, live music, a kid zone and more. Admission is free.
